Pharmacy Practice

This lab also aid in training the students to teach about the dispensing of the drugs in a hospital by a pharmacist and about community pharmacy practice.

Students in the Pharmacy Practice Laboratory at the Ishan Institute of Pharmacy have the advantage of real-life, hands-on experiences to help them prepare for their rotations and future careers.

Students are also required to understand and participate in active-learning activities including understanding prescription, diabetic-foot exams, blood glucose testing, reading of blood pressures, and counseling mock patients on medication utilization. Additional active-learning simulations revolve around filling prescriptions, performing drug-interaction assessments. Also includes activities like professionalism, communication skills, prescription compounding, calculations, use and practice of drug information, physical assessment, devices-use competency, adherence, and medication safety. The course will utilize, problem based learning and simulated or actual clinical cases to continue development of students’ knowledge base in human disorders and therapeutics and enhance their skills in problem solving, organization, communication, and literature assessment. Students will also learn how to recommend over-the-counter (OTC) products, dietary supplements, natural products and other alternative medicine therapies.
